為什麼要把科學和藝術對立起來，變成選擇題？
首先翻譯是一門科學，有方法，有理論，有規律。
另外，翻譯又是一門藝術。同一句話有多種譯法，沒有標準答案，某種程度上又不像科學那樣嚴謹唯一，可謂仁者見仁智者見智。
在我看來，翻譯是藝術的科學，又是科學的藝術，把二者對立起來就等於把思想束縛起來了，提問本身就是錯的。

The debate whether translation is a science or art can date back to Eugene Nida. In 1964, Nida proposed the scientification issue of translation in his work Toward a Science of Translating. However, in 1969, he indicated that the meaning of translation was much bigger than science.
He even said a completely satisfactory translation was always an art. Later in 1991, Nida pointed that 「[w]e should not attempt to make a science out of translating, since it is essentially not an isolatable discipline, but a creative technology, a way of doing something which employs insights from a number of different disciplines. Translating can never be any more holistic or comprehensive than the disciplines on which it depends.
」 In 1998, when Nida answer a journalist』s question, he reiterated that translation cannot be a science. We can see that Nida』s translation thought has gone through three stages: translation is a science; translation is an art, but he does not deny its science connotation; translation is a technology that requires creativity, but it cannot be a science.
The process of translation is undoubtedly a process of artistic creation. Otherwise, translation will become a formulation process. I don』t think that there are in the receptor language expressions that can be considered as counterparts of those in the source language when a translator is translating a text.
The translated version should be close to the source version and read so natural in the receptor language that both of them can function equivalently first in terms of meaning and secondly in terms of style. But is translation a pure art? I am afraid no.
The so-called science here mainly refers to the descriptiveness of translation. That is to say, it can describe and formulate translation procedures and methods objectively and scientifically. Patterns of translation also exist.
