"A Time for Choosing", also known as "The Speech", was a speech presented during the 1964 U.S. presidential election campaign by future president Ronald Reagan on behalf of Republican candidate Barry Goldwater.
Some of its words still echo after all these days
Not too long ago, two friends of mine were talking to a Cuban refugee, a businessman who had escaped from Castro, and in the midst of his story one of my friends turned to the other and said, "We don't know how lucky we are." And the Cuban stopped and said, "How lucky you are? I had someplace to escape to.
" And in that sentence he told us the entire story.If we lose freedom here, there's no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth.

我是學經濟的，對經濟史比較感興趣。剛才碰巧在 YouTube 上聽到一段與上世紀末中美經貿有關的英語演講，感覺演講者挺有水平的。隨手查了下，網上似乎還沒有 transcript，所以自己做了一點微小的工作，放在下面。

China's market is open to you all. Of course, an open market is a competitive market. Only those who can seize opportunities and bring their advantages into full play can eventually gain a market share.
We are ready to continue to improve conditions for US firms to invest in China. We also hope that the US government will take positive and effective steps to support their firms in entering the Chinese market for equal competition.
As Franklin Roosevelt once said, "the only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today." Let us move forward with a strong and active face. By the same token, let us work hard to push for a closer bilateral cooperation in the economic and trade areas to the benefits of the people of China and the United States.
