梅斯菲爾德曾獲2023年喬治五世所授的
「英國桂冠詩人」稱號，
他只寫過26首詩，
14歲起便當水手，
長期的漂泊生活，
使他成為了著名的「大海的詩人」，
這首詩歌表達了John Masefield對
大海的熱愛和深深眷戀之情。
I must go down to the seas again,
to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship
and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song
and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face,

遠遠近近，任你四處尋找，
在地面的萬物上
值得歡唱的原因是那麼少，
是什麼使它欣喜若狂？
這使我覺得：它顫音的歌詞，
它歡樂曲晚安曲調
含有某種幸福希望----為它所知
而不為我所曉。

白朗寧夫人《葡萄牙人抒情十四行詩》中的第一首：

在沒有讀到這首詩之前，學法語的時候用很簡單的介詞片語寫短句（學雅克.普雷韋的《Alicante》hhh）就不知不覺寫下了：

是很蹩腳的練習啦（輕噴QAQ）但完全沒有想到能和這麼美的詩沾上一丟丟邊。仔細想想，美啊、愛啊這一切生命中的好事物其實都藏在每個人的心底，無論他是平凡還是偉大。所以最唯美的詩大概是人類可以洞悉美好的心靈吧~
