所以Fripp在75年宣稱前衛已死，不得不說是極富洞察力的。
很明顯的觀察到，前衛顯然成為了一種風格的代名詞，並且在非常可疑的層次上使用，所有的精神都消解了。

藝術搖滾編排更加複雜，層次更豐富，有很多古典的元素。
前衛搖滾主要體現在難，鼓，貝斯，吉他solo都很難。
實驗搖滾比起前面兩個沒有多少旋律，更多的是噪音，自然取樣或者很free的器樂solo。

Progressive rock is a style of rock music that began in the late 1960. Taking as a foundation from the Beatles' 1967 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, many musicians began to push the boundaries of rock music; longer songs, mood changes, surprises, and a certain element of drama set this style apart from rock'n'roll.
This music existed more for the true listening experience, rather than serving the role of music for dancing, partying, and rebellion. Lyrics were often about subjects other than love and socializing, and took on science fiction, fantasy, and philosophical themes. Many believe the first true progressive rock album to be In the Court of the Crimson King, the1969 album from King Crimson.
Other founding groups that began around the same time including Yes; Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP); Genesis; and Jethro Tull. More bands immediately followed, such as Gentle Giant, Kansas, and Rush. These groups attained high levels of popularity, and are probably the best-known.
However, many other groups from all over the world had their beginnings in the early '70s, and many new progressive rock bands continue to form, record, and perform--all of which are in no small part responsible for the phenomenon of the genre.
